Softball Recap: Palmyra's Losing Streak Snapped at Eight Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lower Dauphin, Palmyra was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Central Dauphin East Panthers with a sharp 12-6 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Emalyn Funck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Funck was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Shay Rutter was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Riley Westenberger also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Palmyra was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Palmyra's victory bumped their record up to 3-15. As for Central Dauphin East, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Looking ahead, Palmyra will challenge Gettysburg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Dauphin East, they will venture away from home to take on Lower Dauphin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
