Softball Recap: Evangelical Christian Comes Up Short

Evangelical Christian had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-13 to make it seven. They lost 17-2 to St. Benedict at Auburndale. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against St. Benedict at Auburndale this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-4 back in March.

As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For St. Benedict at Auburndale's part, Everlee Verdugo-Privette made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Verdugo-Privette has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, St. Benedict at Auburndale let Ava Coleman and Madison Young run wild. Coleman went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Young got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Coleman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Henderson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evangelical Christian will square off against Fayette Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, they will take on Harding Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
