Basketball Recap: Clairemont Falls Despite Big Games from Hank Wyman and Blake Murphy

After flying high against Valley Center last Saturday, Clairemont came back down to earth. The Clairemont Chieftains fell 71-60 to the Foothills Christian Knights on Monday. The Chieftains were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Clairemont's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Blake Murphy, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points and eight boards, and Hank Wyman, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points and four steals. Murphy is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Rodarte, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Patrick Delahoussaye continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Foothills Christian, putting up 34 points. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Delahoussaye has scored at least a third of Foothills Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Joey Turk, who had 15 points.

Clairemont's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Foothills Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season.

Clairemont didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-49 win against Canyon Hills on the 28th. As for Foothills Christian, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Army-Navy at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
