The Potts Camp Cardinals will square off against the Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Potts Camp has given up an average of 27.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Potts Camp lost 50-27 to Falkner on Thursday. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Jeffrey Curry and Anthony Morgan. Morgan had a great game and rushed for 278 yards and five scores while picking up 14.6 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Curry was balling out in the loss, rushing for 199 yards on only 13 carries.
Meanwhile, Tupelo Christian Prep won against Thrasher two weeks ago with 41 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. The Eagles simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Smithville 41-0. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 29 points or more this season.
Potts Camp better keep an eye on Sawyer Malone. He was instrumental in Tupelo Christian Prep's win, rushing for 355 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.4 yards per carry. Malone really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Another player making a difference was Micaiah Young, who rushed for 67 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries.
Tupelo Christian Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 429 rushing yards. They are a perfect 4-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Tupelo Christian Prep has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.8 points on average over those games. As for Potts Camp, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Potts Camp has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 225.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tupelo Christian Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 197.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Potts Camp was taken down by Tupelo Christian Prep 48-18 when the teams last played back in September of 2018. Thankfully for the Cardinals, Layth Holiday (who threw for 152 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 90 yards on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
