Basketball Recap: R.J. Reynolds Comes Up Short

R.J. Reynolds was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the West Forsyth Titans 64-29. While losing is never fun, the Demons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 401st, while the Titans are ranked 193rd).

R.J. Reynolds lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Hattie Boone, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Beale, who had seven points.

Even though they lost, R.J. Reynolds smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Emma Staples was her usual excellent self, going 8-for-17 en route to 25 points for West Forsyth. The dominant performance gave Staples a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn King, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards.

R.J. Reynolds' loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for West Forsyth, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-10.

R.J. Reynolds wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 73-29 defeat against Reagan on the 11th. As for West Forsyth, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-46 loss against Bishop McGuinness on the 8th.
