With a playoff win on the line, Pittsburg rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Cardinal Newman Cardinals 42-17. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Pittsburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Javale Jones led the charge by throwing for 233 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 42 yards. Those three passing touchdowns gave Jones a new career-high. Kenneth Ward was in the mix as well, providing Pittsburg with two scores.

Defeat or not, Cardinal Newman got some senior leadership from Brody Estrela and Jonah Bertoli. Estrela gained 109 total yards, while Bertoli picked up 74 receiving yards and one TD.

Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Cardinal Newman, they moved to 11-2 with that loss, which also ended their 11-game winning streak.

Coming up, Pittsburg will challenge Central East at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bengals will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. Cardinal Newman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
