Softball Recap: Mountain Pointe Wins Going Away Against Ironwood

After only one run in their last contest, Mountain Pointe made sure to put some runs up on the board against Ironwood on Tuesday. The Mountain Pointe Pride were the clear victor by a 13-5 margin over the Ironwood Eagles. While the Pride didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Lauryn Chavez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JoJo Castillo, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Sophia Venegas was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Mountain Pointe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .475. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ironwood only posted a batting average of .323.

Mountain Pointe pushed their record up to 5-1-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8 runs. As for Ironwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Mountain Pointe will take on Chaparral at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Chaparral has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.83 runs per game on average), something Mountain Pointe will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ironwood, they will head out on the road to square off against Youngker at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
