Softball Preview: Eastern Eagles vs. Trimble Tomcats

Eastern is a perfect 5-0 against Trimble since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will welcome the Tomcats at 5:00 p.m. Eastern knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Trimble likes a good challenge.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Eastern and Belpre meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Golden Eagles. Considering the Eagles have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jaynna Wright 2026 made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Ashlynn Thomas 2027 and Aedre Ault 2028 did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas 2027 went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI, while Ault 2028 got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those triples marked the first that Thomas 2027 has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Rylie White 2027, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Eastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Trimble had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Wildcats. The two-run effort marked the Tomcats' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Jessa Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

On the hitting side, Ava Richards was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rilynn Fouts, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Trimble's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Eastern, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Eastern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Trimble struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Eastern's way against Trimble in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Eastern made off with an 18-0 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tomcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
