Mt. Vernon waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Marion Wildcats by a score of 7-3. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 15-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Danicah Tobin made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Paige Watson was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lexi Howard, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Mt. Vernon's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marion, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-3 record.

Coming up, Marion will venture away from home to take on Herrin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Vernon will be paying especially close attention to the Wildcats' game: after the Wildcats faces off against the Tigers, they'll take on Mt. Vernon again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
