Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canon City). They put the hurt on the Palmer Terrors with a sharp 24-1 win on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Khloe Weise made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Weise was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024.
In other batting news, Natalie Henry was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cammi Leis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Canon City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .861. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Canon City's record is now 7-11. As for Palmer, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Canon City will head out to challenge Widefield at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gladiators have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Palmer, they will head out on the road to face off against Fountain-Fort Carson at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
