Preview: South Johnston Trojans vs. Southern Wayne Saints
South Johnston is 0-5 against Southern Wayne since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The South Johnston Trojans will be playing at home against the Southern Wayne Saints at 6:15 p.m. The timing is sure in South Johnston's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Southern Wayne has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
South Johnston was handed a 23-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against East Wake on Friday. South Johnston sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 victory over East Wake. The victory was just what South Johnston needed coming off of a 72-49 defeat in their prior matchup.
Lannah Price was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Winborne, who scored eight points.
Southern Wayne suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 57-18 loss at the hands of C.B. Aycock. Southern Wayne was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-4.
Despite the loss, Southern Wayne got a solid performance out of Wilberline Senatus, who scored four points.
South Johnston's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Southern Wayne, they have fallen quite a ways from their 20-8 record last season and are now at 6-10.
South Johnston was dealt a bruising 62-27 loss at the hands of Southern Wayne in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for South Johnston, Jamaiya Bass (who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 2 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
