Softball Recap: Clayton Takes a Loss

Clayton entered their game against Cleveland on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Comets fell 5-1 to the Rams. The Comets' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Izzy Tart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clayton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haleigh Mohamed, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Clayton suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 7-5. As for Cleveland, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clayton will welcome Willow Spring at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Storm have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. As for Cleveland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southeast Raleigh at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.31 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
