Basketball Game Preview: Gibault Catholic Hawks vs. New Athens Yellow Jackets + How To Watch

Gibault Catholic and New Athens are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2017, but not for long. The Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Yellow Jackets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Gibault Catholic was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Dupo on Wednesday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 36-14 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Gibault Catholic's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Karmon Grohmann, who posted 13 points along with six boards and three steals, and Olivia Biffar, who put up nine points and three steals. Grohmann has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.

Meanwhile, New Athens humbled Metro-East Lutheran with a 56-21 victory.

New Athens found their leader in sophomore Brooke Deterding, who went 8-for-10 en route to 24 points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Ally Barr, who scored eight points and eight rebounds.

The win got Gibault Catholic back to even at 1-1. As for New Athens, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.

Gibault Catholic took their win against New Athens in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 54-32 score. In that game, the Hawks amassed a halftime lead of 31-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
