Woodlawn took a 26-point loss the last time they faced off against Gardendale, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Colonels sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 win over the Rockets on Friday. The Colonels' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Kharon Lewis threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes. Cornealius Hudson was his top target, picking up 127 receiving yards and one TD. On the ground, Antwuan Smith rushed for 86 yards on only nine carries.

Despite the defeat, Gardendale saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rian Porter threw for 181 yards and one TD, and also punched in one rushing score.

Woodlawn's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6. As for Gardendale, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Woodlawn will head out to take on Parker at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gardendale, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Spain Park at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
