Softball Preview: Workman Lobos vs. Southlands Christian Eagles
The Workman Lobos will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Southlands Christian Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Workman is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Pomona. Workman put the hurt on Pomona with a sharp 15-1 win on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lobos as it spelled an end to their 13-game losing streak dating back to last season.
The team relied heavily on Sydney Rivera, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Leana Sanchez, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Southlands Christian posted their closest win since April 9, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past Sacred Heart of Jesus 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Natalia Bargas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Analisa Guerrero was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Lauren Lopez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
