Basketball Recap: Happy Camp Comes Up Short

Happy Camp lost against Tulelake back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Happy Camp Indians were beaten by the Tulelake Honkers 64-24. The Indians' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Happy Camp's loss came despite strong showings from Ededa Rose and Mary McAbier. Rose almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds, while McAbier posted two points and five boards. Rose is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Franny Day also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Tulelake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maritza Chavolla led the charge by putting up 18 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards gave Chavolla a new career-high. Another player making a difference was McKenna Fine, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds.

Happy Camp's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Tulelake, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-10.

Happy Camp wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-32 win against Big Valley on the 21st. As for Tulelake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-47 victory against Surprise Valley on the 21st.
