Football Recap: Bayard Rustin Comes Up Short

If Bayard Rustin was feeling good fresh off their 31-10 takedown of Kennett last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Knights were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 20-19 to the Downingtown West Whippets. The contest was a 13-13 toss-up at halftime, but the Golden Knights couldn't quite close it out.

Bayard Rustin's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Will Garner, who rushed for 100 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries, and Colin Baldesari, who rushed for 84 yards. Garner's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards.

Bayard Rustin's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Downingtown West, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bayard Rustin will host Downingtown East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last. As for Downingtown West, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Great Valley at 7:00 p.m.
