Basketball Recap: Early County Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Nakevia Brown and Ty'jerrica Russell

Early County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seminole County Indians on Saturday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-38 back in December of 2024.

Ty'Jerrica Russell and Nakevia Brown certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Russell posted 15 points and six boards, while Brown dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brown is becoming a predictor of Early County's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 12-5 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). Bernycia Haynes was another key player, putting up a point along with seven rebounds and seven steals.

Even though they lost, Early County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Seminole County had a senior duo take command as Equeasha Daniels went 8 of 15 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals and Zyi'Kiera King dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tiara Henry, who had four points and ten boards.

Early County's record now sits at 13-7. As for Seminole County, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4.

Early County has already played their next match, a 43-39 win against Miller County on the 3rd. As for Seminole County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-45 victory against Quitman County on the 3rd.
