Football Recap: Carson Diehl's Big Game Can't Quite Lead La Jolla over St. Augustine + How To Watch

La Jolla lost against St. Augustine back in October of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Vikings fell 41-35 to the Saints. Despite 101 more yards than the Saints, the Vikings couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

La Jolla lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Carson Diehl, who picked up 246 receiving yards and four touchdowns. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 104 receiving yards per game. Emerson Rota was another key player, throwing for 339 yards and four TDs.

Paisios Polamalu continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. Augustine, rushing for 316 yards and three scores while picking up 10.9 yards per carry, and also catching one touchdown. Those 316 rushing yards gave Polamalu a new career-high. Cooper Hamric got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

La Jolla's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-4. As for St. Augustine, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.

La Jolla has already played their next contest, a 47-35 victory against Madison on the 30th. As for St. Augustine, they will venture away from home to take on Point Loma at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pointers' defense has only allowed 9.7 points per game this season, so the Saints' offense will have their work cut out for them.
