Basketball Recap: Del Norte Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Del Norte had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 49-39 win over the Elmira Falcons. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Warriors' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 305th in California, while the Falcons are ranked 79th in Oregon).

Del Norte got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Damian Escalera out in front who went 7-for-17 to rack up 18 points. Escalera continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Blue, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Del Norte's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Elmira, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Looking ahead, Del Norte will welcome Arcata at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 63 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Elmira, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Douglas at 7:00 p.m.
