Baseball Recap: Ashton-Franklin Center Has No Trouble Against West Carroll

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ashton-Franklin Center). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the West Carroll Thunder a 17-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Caleb Thomas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, Brock Lehman was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Logan O'Brien also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Ashton-Franklin Center always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Carroll only posted an OBP of .400.

The victory (which was Ashton-Franklin Center's third in a row) raised their record to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for West Carroll, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashton-Franklin Center will challenge Alden-Hebron at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for West Carroll, they will take on Newman Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
