Cypress Lake had won two straight games and Nolan McKinnon did his part to make it three on Thursday. The Panthers came out on top against the Mariner Tritons by a score of 44-34 with plenty of help from McKinnon, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one touchdown. He showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 64 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cypress Lake's defensive line and their three sacks. Daniel Johnson refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Mariner's side was Johnson, who picked up two sacks and made nine total tackles.
Several Tritons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen O'Leary, who threw for 245 yards and three TDs. A healthy portion of that aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Steven Leon Carter Jr., who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Cypress Lake's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Mariner, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
After each having a week off, Cypress Lake and Key West will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. on the 14th. The Panthers will be up against the Conchs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.6 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Mariner does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
