Softball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Marion Wildcats

Mt. Vernon is 2-8 against Marion since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Rams will face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Mt. Vernon will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Mt. Vernon will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Marion, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Rams came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 15-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Danicah Tobin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Paige Watson was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Lexi Howard was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

Mt. Vernon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marion, their record now sits at 7-3.
