Basketball Recap: Lamar Starts off Right with Win over Mitchell

Lamar gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They really took it to the Mitchell Marauders for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-32 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 49-18.

Lamar was led to victory by Alex Williams and Andrew Chairez. Williams posted 11 points and eight rebounds, while Chairez went 5-for-7 to rack up 11 points. Those 11 points gave Chairez a new career-high. Baylor Autry was another key player, shooting 67% from the field en route to 12 points.

Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lamar and Dumas will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. As for Mitchell, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bennett at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
