Football Recap: Porter Takes a Loss

Porter lost against Edcouch-Elsa back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cowboys came up short against the Yellowjackets, falling 28-7.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Edcouch-Elsa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ayden Mercado, who rushed for 175 yards and one TD while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Mercado is becoming a predictor of the Yellowjackets' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Aydan Garcia was another key rusher, rushing for 65 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries.

Porter's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Edcouch-Elsa, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Porter is set to challenge their familiar foe Lopez at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Edcouch-Elsa will face off against rival Pace at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
