Soccer Game Preview: Veterans Memorial vs. Pieper

Veterans Memorial hasn't had much luck against Pieper recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Patriots will face off against the Warriors at 7:15 p.m.

Veterans Memorial fell victim to Boerne and their airtight defense on Friday. They came up short against the Greyhounds, falling 3-0. While losing is never fun, Veterans Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 752nd, while Boerne are ranked 186th).

Meanwhile, Pieper hasn't lost a match since January 8th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Tivy 2-1.

Landon Villarreal and Jackson Blankenship scored both of Pieper's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 16 goals.

Pieper is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 33 goals over those eight matches. As for Veterans Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 3-18-1.

Veterans Memorial suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Pieper when the teams last played back in January. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
