Basketball Recap: East Gaston Comes Up Short

East Gaston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by the Burns Bulldogs 89-57. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-25.

Leading Burns to victory were Tye Clay and Jaxon Self. Clay went 10-for-20 on his way to 25 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Self made all 7 shots he took racking up 17 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Self a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Putnam, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 14 points.

East Gaston's defeat dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Burns, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, East Gaston will host Highland Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Highland Tech knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully East Gaston likes a good challenge. As for Burns, they are taking a road trip to challenge Shelby at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Shelby has won seven straight at home, while Burns won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
