Softball Recap: Tri-Township Takes a Loss

Tri-Township extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Boone Grove Wolves. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wolves from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Boone Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Boone Grove's part, Amanda Powell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Powell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mercedes Szakacs and Maria Otero did most of the damage at the plate: Szakacs went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Otero went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Szakacs has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Treece, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Tri-Township and Boone Grove could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Tigers (ranked 349th) will meet Rensselaer Central (ranked 160th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Boone Grove will challenge New Prairie at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (97 vs. 29).
