Volleyball Recap: Southwestern Wildcats vs. Mineral Point Pointers
Southwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mineral Point Pointers. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Pointers when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Southwestern sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-11, 15-25, 25-16, 25-27, 15-6.
Abigail Foley paced Southwestern's offense, picking up ten kills. Foley got some help from Alyssa Shelliam and her 26 assists. Shelliam was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.
Sophie Miller had a dynamite game For Mineral Point., getting nine digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave Miller a new career-high in assists (30). Another player making a difference was Ava Ingwell, who had 14 digs and two aces.
Southwestern now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Mineral Point, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
