Football Recap: Bingham Miners vs. Lehi Pioneers
On Friday, Bingham faced Lehi in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Bingham Miners fell 34-23 to the Lehi Pioneers. The Miners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pioneers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2016.
Bingham lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being John Kulimushi, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown. Bingham also got help from Mani Tuuao, who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
Bingham's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Trey Johnson and Charger Doty. That's the most total yards Doty has posted since back in September of 2023.
Mays Madsen had a dynamite game for Lehi, picking up 85 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown. Madsen got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 50 yards. Another player making a difference was Carter Cutler, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Bingham now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Lehi, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Bingham will take on Skyridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lehi, they will have plenty of time to enjoy the victory as they don't play again for a while. They'll take on Herriman at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th. Lehi is facing Herriman at the right time seeing as Herriman is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
