Basketball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Eureka's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Eureka posted their closest win since December 5, 2024 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-52 victory over the University Prep Panthers. This was payback for the Loggers, who suffered a 65-59 loss the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eureka to victory, but perhaps none more so than Will Mooney, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Estrada, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why University Prep lost, don't look at Adam Gire. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 12 boards and nine blocks. The dominant performance gave Gire a new career-high in blocks. Trey Pringle was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Eureka is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for University Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Eureka will take on McKinleyville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in McKinleyville's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Eureka has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. As for University Prep, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 63-22 win against Anderson on the 7th.
