Manitou Springs and Lamar are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Manitou Springs Mustangs will be playing at home against the Lamar Thunder at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

On Thursday, Manitou Springs lost to Salida on the road by a 48-29 margin. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Spartans are ranked 59th).

Meanwhile, Lamar came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 63-32 victory over the Thunderbolts. The Thunder have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 22 points or more this season.

Manitou Springs better keep an eye on Brooklyn Robbins. She was instrumental in Lamar's win, dropping a double-double with 28 points and ten rebounds. The game was Robbins' fourth in a row with at least 16 points. Tatum Milenski was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven steals.

Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Manitou Springs' defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-8. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.8 points over those games. As for Lamar, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.

Manitou Springs came up short against Lamar in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 36-25. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Robbins, who posted 16 points and five boards.
