Football Recap: Algonquin Regional Takes a Loss

Algonquin Regional extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. The contest between the Titans and the Leominster Blue Devils didn't end well, with the Titans falling 25-9. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 178th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 36th).

As for Leominster, they now have a winning record of 3-2. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Algonquin Regional: they've now won four in a row.

A big part of Leominster's victory came down to the chemistry between Osiris Lopez and his top target Ryan Ricker. Lopez threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns while Ricker picked up 172 receiving yards and one score. That's the most passing yards Lopez has posted since back in October of 2024. Emilio Alicea got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Coming up, Algonquin Regional will face off against Grafton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gators will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last. As for Leominster, they will take on Shrewsbury at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Colonials' defense has only allowed 14.8 points per game this season, so the Blue Devils' offense will have their work cut out for them.
