Flag Football Recap: Aurora West College Prep Academy Takes a Loss

Aurora West College Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 40-19 to the Eagle Ridge Academy Warriors.

Despite the defeat, Aurora West College Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Destiny Martinez rushed for 90 yards and one score on only six carries. Martinez's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain her lofty yards per carry total.

Even if they lost, Aurora West College Prep Academy's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Maria Gutierrez Benitez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up three sacks all by herself.

Jazlyn Greenwood had another great game (as she tends to do), rushing for 174 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 206 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 77.3% of her passes for Eagle Ridge Academy. Greenwood also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up four sacks, making nine total tackles, and defending two passes. Eagle Ridge Academy's leading receiver Carole Tamburino was Greenwood's top target yet again, picking up 128 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Aurora West College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Eagle Ridge Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-7.

Aurora West College Prep Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 32-7 defeat against Rangeview on the 7th. As for Eagle Ridge Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 35-12 victory against Mountain Range on the 6th.
