Football Recap: Dayton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Sierra Lutheran last Thursday, Dayton came back down to earth. The Dust Devils came up short against the Fernley Vaqueros on Friday, falling 50-27. The Dust Devils haven't had much luck with the Vaqueros recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Dayton lost, don't look at Duke Evans. Despite the final result, he rushed for 290 yards and three scores while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Evans' rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Tyler Kemp, who picked up 142 receiving yards and one TD.

Keeshawn Love continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fernley, rushing for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries. Love's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Dayton's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Fernley, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Dayton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fernley, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Lowry at 6:00 p.m. The Vaqueros will be up against the Buckaroos' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.7 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
