Baseball Game Preview: Taft School Big Red vs. Avon Old Farms Beavers

Taft School hasn't had much luck against Avon Old Farms recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Big Red are taking a road trip to take on the Beavers at 4:45 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Taft School comes in on three and Avon Old Farms on seven.

On Wednesday, Taft School needed a bit of extra time to put away Loomis Chaffee School. They had just enough and edged out the Pelicans 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Big Red have posted since May 9, 2024.

Omar Minaya was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Noah Jettelson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base.

Minaya wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Taft School lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Avon Old Farms got the win against Brunswick School on Wednesday by a conclusive 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Beavers, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Avon Old Farms pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Taft School, their record now sits at 5-2.

Taft School couldn't quite finish off Avon Old Farms in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Big Red avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
