Softball Game Preview: Eastlake Titans vs. Bonita Vista Barons

Eastlake hasn't had much luck against Bonita Vista recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Titans will look to defend their home field against the Barons at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Eastlake 3, Bonita Vista 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Eastlake is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Otay Ranch, falling 9-2. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by exactly seven runs.

Eastlake saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaz Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Bonita Vista entered their tilt with Mater Dei Catholic on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Crusaders.

Bonita Vista also got a great performance from Natalie Gonzalez as she tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Gonzalez has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Bonita Vista's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Eastlake, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10-1.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Eastlake hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bonita Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
