Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Northern Guilford walked away with it. They blew past the Ashbrook Greenwave 39-14 on Friday. Considering the Nighthawks have won seven contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Northern Guilford's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Amare Akers, who rushed for 108 yards and two scores on only 13 carries. Akers is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jaxson Kemp was another key player, rushing for 35 yards and one TD.

Northern Guilford's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Noah Smith, Player #84, and Arimeeh Mack, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Northern Guilford pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.0 points on average over those games. As for Ashbrook, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 12-1.

Looking ahead, Northern Guilford will challenge Watauga at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' defense has only allowed 11.6 points per game this season, so the Nighthawks' offense will have their work cut out for them. Ashbrook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
