Baseball Game Preview: Brookline Warriors vs. Weston Wildcats

The Brookline Warriors will head out to face off against the Weston Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Brookline barely beat Framingham the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors blew past the Flyers 9-3 on Wednesday. The contest marked the Warriors' most dominant win of the season so far.

Ben Cote looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Brookline is 4-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, Elias Brendel was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI were his first of the season. Felix Ham was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Weston is still undefeated this season after their game against Boston Latin Academy on Tuesday, but Boston Latin Academy came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Wildcats skirted past the Dragons 3-1. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Wildcats have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Owen Jorajuria spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryuji Nawa, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Weston pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Brookline, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
