Softball Recap: Merrill Comes Up Short

Merrill extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-4. They came up short against the Fulton Pirates, falling 17-2. The Vandals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Fulton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Fulton's part, Reagan Weaver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Weaver was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Kerrigan Ryan and Dayten Lambert did most of the damage at the plate: Ryan went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Lambert went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Ryan has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Norah Hnetynka, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Merrill is set to challenge their familiar foe St. Charles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Fulton will square off against rival Sacred Heart Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
