Preview: Strawberry Crest Chargers vs. Durant Cougars
Strawberry Crest and Durant are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Strawberry Crest Chargers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Durant Cougars at 8:00 p.m. Strawberry Crest is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Strawberry Crest suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 66-46 loss at the hands of Bloomingdale. While losing is never fun, Strawberry Crest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 691st, while Bloomingdale is ranked 254th).
Despite the loss, Strawberry Crest had strong showings from Cameron Crowe, who scored 16 points along with five assists and two steals, and Jayson Lewis, who scored 15 points. Maximus von Ancken was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Durant beat Plant 57-53 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Durant.
Durant had a senior duo take command as Wylde Correa dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds and Austin White scored 17 points along with four steals. Correa is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaac Correa, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Strawberry Crest's loss was their tenth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-17. As for Durant, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
Strawberry Crest came up short against Durant in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 69-61. Thankfully for Strawberry Crest, Xavier Peavy (who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
