Baseball Preview: Watertown Goslings vs. Waupun Warriors
The Watertown Goslings are taking a road trip to challenge the Waupun Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Watertown is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Kettle Moraine.
Calvin Hurtgen was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Hurtgen, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Waupun posted their closest win since May 2, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Denmark 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
Chase Beahm and Logan Prall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Beahm pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Prall tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Beahm a new career-high in strikeouts (two). At bat, Beahm scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Prall scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Trey Schmidt was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Landon Richter was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
