The McCollum Cowboys will face off against the South San Antonio Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, McCollum was able to grind out a solid victory over Cotulla, taking the game 6-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for McCollum.
Aiden Rodriguez and Christopher White did most of the damage at the plate: Rodriguez got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI, while White scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Nathan Moreno was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
McCollum always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cotulla only posted an OBP of .360.
Meanwhile, South San Antonio waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
South San Antonio let Anthony Chavez and Matthew Escamilla run wild. Chavez went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one triple, while Escamilla scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave Chavez a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Kela, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
South San Antonio's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for McCollum, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. McCollum has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. However, it's not like South San Antonio struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
