Baseball Recap: Mission Bay Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

Mission Bay is still undefeated this season after their contest against Monte Vista on Monday, but Monte Vista came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Mission Bay Buccaneers came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Monte Vista Monarchs. The Buccaneers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Monarchs, too.

Van Playman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

Playman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Oswald, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Mission Bay pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Monte Vista, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Mission Bay will face off against Hilltop at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Monte Vista, they will be taking part in a tournament against La Jolla at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Jolla's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Monte Vista's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
