Soccer Game Preview: West Ashley vs. Waccamaw

The West Ashley Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Waccamaw Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

West Ashley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: Bishop England, who was ranked 14th at the time (West Ashley was ranked fifth). West Ashley blew past Bishop England 6-1 on Tuesday. The score was close at the half, but the Wildcats pulled away in the second half with four goals.

They hit Bishop England with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Addison Powers (4), Scout Shieder, and Emma Elliott.

Meanwhile, Waccamaw kept a clean sheet against Aynor on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Blue Jackets with a sharp 8-0 victory. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their one-goal performance the game before.

Waccamaw is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those four contests. The win made it two in a row for West Ashley and bumps their season record up to 6-1-2.

West Ashley skirted past Waccamaw 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Ashley since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
