Basketball Game Preview: Biloxi Indians vs. Starkville Yellowjackets

The Biloxi Indians will challenge the Starkville Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Biloxi barely beat Daphne the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Trojans 59-30. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Indians had established a 21-point advantage.

Biloxi's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zaniya Johnson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jayla Carriere was another key player, putting up 20 points and three steals.

Biloxi was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Daphne only posted three.

Meanwhile, Starkville had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against Meridian as they made off with a 55-31 victory. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Biloxi couldn't quite get it done against Starkville in their previous matchup back in February as they fell 23-16. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
