Basketball Recap: Ben Newton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lawrence County over Athens

Lawrence County lost against Athens last Monday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Lawrence County Red Devils took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Athens Golden Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 50th).

Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ben Newton, who posted ten points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Braylon Dame, who earned 17 points.

Lawrence County now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Athens, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Lawrence County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 69-57 defeat against Winfield on the 26th. As for Athens, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-43 win against Tanner on the 27th.
