Basketball Recap: Holland Horton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Petrolia over Olney

Petrolia lost against Olney back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Petrolia Pirates took a 36-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Olney Cubs.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Holland Horton, who posted nine points. That was a full 34.6% of Petrolia's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Petrolia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Petrolia has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season. As for Olney, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-14.

Petrolia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-25 defeat against Windthorst on the 21st. Olney has also already played their next contest, a 79-16 loss against Nocona on the 21st.
