Basketball Game Preview: Fenwick Friars vs. Aurora Central Catholic Chargers

The Fenwick Friars will take on the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers in a tournament on Monday. Both are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Fenwick turned things around against Amundsen on Saturday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 52-22 victory over the Vikings. Given the Friars' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Vikings are ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Aurora Central Catholic came tearing into Thursday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the Meteors to the tune of 57-27. The Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Aurora Central Catholic is also on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. As for Fenwick, their win bumped their record up to 11-12.

Things could have been worse for Fenwick, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 72-57 loss to Aurora Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Fenwick avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
