Football Recap: Port St. Joe Comes Up Short Despite Corban Butts' Big Defensive Game

Port St. Joe had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-5 to make it four. They fell 24-15 to the Baker Gators. While the Tiger Sharks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Gators 7-3 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Port St. Joe lost, don't look at Corban Butts. Despite the final result, he rushed for 143 yards and one score on only 11 carries. Butts didn't just play on offense: he also picked up two sacks and made three total tackles (3.0 for loss). Zay Jenkins also helped out with an impressive 87 receiving yards.

Even if they lost, Port St. Joe's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Butts with two. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 129 rushing yards.

As for Baker, the win keeps them at an undefeated 10-0. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.3 points on average this season.

Baker got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Justice Baldwin out in front who threw for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 passes, and also rushed for 116 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Riley Renfro, who picked up 127 receiving yards and two TDs.

Port St. Joe has already played their next matchup, a 30-7 victory against Destin on the 31st. Baker does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
